Agriculture Program for Children: Session II

Agriculture Program for Children: Session II

Monday, July 13, 2015 - Friday, July 17, 2015
9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Field House Farm is happy to announce the schedule for three week long sessions of our Summer Agriculture Program for Children.

The program will introduce kids to basic farming practices, allowing them to plant and harvest in our large garden and greenhouse. We will learn about what grows in Connecticut and what all of us can do with just a small amount of space, or even containers! Kids will leave with the skills to grow some of their own veggies to share with their families! Kids will also learn about the animals that we have on our farm, including chickens, ducks, turkeys, donkey, pigs, sheep, goats, and cows. We will discuss the care of these animals and the kids will be allowed to participate in their care….and their play! Additionally, each day will allow time for either a nature themed Art class, an Earth and food science class, or nature crafts with specialized teachers.

The program will have the following sessions:
Session I: Monday July 06-Friday July 10
Session II: Monday July 13-Friday July 17
Session III: Monday July 20-Friday July 24 – 9AM-12PM—Farm Intern Program. This is for children 5th-12th grade who are looking for work experience on the farm. There will be guided and supervised projects and skills taught in this week long intern program. ($250 per child)

All morning sessions (in Week I and Week II) are open to children from the age of 5-12 years old. Afternoon sessions are open to children ages 8-12 year old.

The morning session will start at 9am and end at 1pm. A healthy snack and drink will be provided in the morning. There is a lunch bunch option (bring your own) from 1-1:30PM.
There is a NEW OFFERING of an afternoon session for 8-12 year olds. Your child can enroll in this separately or in conjunction with the morning session. This will run from 1:30-3:30. The afternoon sessions will include more hands on farm work, animal husbandry, and crafts. There will be specialized teachers for cooking, wool crafts, and many other exciting topics.

Children must enroll for the entire week, in either the morning or afternoon sessions or both. Due to staffing, we can not accommodate individual day attendance.

Morning Session Only: $300 per child.
Lunch Bunch: Free of charge.
Afternoon Session Only: $125
Combination Morning and Afternoon sessions: $425

There will be a 10% discount off the fee for a second child in a family.

If you are interested, please email me with your session preferences. To maintain a minimum of 1 adult to six children, we can accommodate a max of 12 children for each session, so please sign up quickly if you are interested. Thank you for your continued support of our family farm!
